Topaz Studio

What is Topaz Studio and why do I need it?

Topaz Studio is a FREE editing tool that hosts all of the current Topaz Labs products. For a detailed overview, GO HERE.

We will be moving all of the plugins into Topaz Studio so they share the same interface and they all live in one place. You may have noticed that some of our products “look” very different from the other products and some perform faster than others. Well we have noticed the same and decided to move them all into Topaz Studio to eliminate this variation. You can use Topaz Studio as a plugin just as before and it will greatly increase your workflow as well.

For example:: Instead of:: Photoshop → launching Clarity → making your edits → saving back to Photoshop → launching Detail → making your edits → saving back to Photoshop.

You will now simply:: Photoshop → Topaz Studio → make edits in Detail AND Clarity → save back to Photoshop

Note:: Topaz Studio can be used as a standalone too without the need for Photoshop or Lightroom!

Currently we have only have Impression, Clarity, and Detail moved into, the rest can also be accessed through Topaz Studio but but from the plugin drop down menu at the top. We will slowly be moving the rest of them shortly after one by one.

I have a TopazLabs.com account from when I bought plugins…I downloaded Topaz Studio. But it’s not recognizing my email address and password… do I need to create a NEW Topaz Studio account?

YES!! And just as important, you need to set up your NEW Topaz Studio account with the SAME EMAIL ADDRESS you used with your old TopazLabs.com account. That way, Your new Topaz Studio account will recognize your old purchases, and you will ensure that you always get the proper free upgrades to your purchases!

If I download Topaz Studio, will all my plugins be there?

All plugins can be accessed through Studio. The plugins that have been migrated into the platform alread can be accessed easily through the left side workflow window. Your other plugins that haven’t yet been migrated into the Topaz Studio platform are available in Topaz Studio in the plugin drop down menu. Notice that when you invoke these plugins they will launch separately instead of appearing in your Topaz Studio. As we progress in moving each plugin into Topaz Studio this step will be go away and become simpler.

Will future plugin upgrades only be available in Studio? Can I still access my plugin through Photoshop or Lightroom?

Your plugins will continue to work with a host editor like Photoshop or Lightroom. All future plugin upgrades you will find in Studio. So we recommend simply using the adjustments in Studio to save your system resources from running multiple programs.

If you want to upgrade your plugin to the new, upgraded version found in Studio, and you still wish to access it through Photoshop, for example, The steps would be these:

  1. Download Studio HERE. Studio is free!
  2. Then you MUST create a NEW Studio account using the SAME email address you previously purchased plugins with. (Important!)
  3. Once you log into your Studio account, select Help > Validate Plugins. That will sync your previous purchases with your Studio account.
  4. Then simply select in Photoshop: Filters > Topaz Studio > (your upgraded plugin), and your previously purchased, upgraded plugin will open in Studio.

Can ALL Topaz products be used in Topaz Studio?

YES! You can use ALL of our products in the Topaz Studio- they will either be under the specialty tab in the workflow panel on the left (Detail, Clarity, Impression), in the plugin drop down menu, and the adjustment drop down menu. AND they can be used as a plugin in Photoshop and Lightroom just follow the directions in the link below::

I updated… why is my “product” asking for a license key?

You have accessed an older version from the plugin drop down menu. Notice how the “product,” even though has been updated in Topaz Studio, your older version will still appear in the plugin drop down menu. For those of you that prefer the older version can use that version from the plugin drop down menu while they used to the Topaz Studio version.

So in short if the “product” is asking for a license key then you will are accessing the older, outdated version. The latest version will be under the specialty tab.

If I download Studio, what will happen to my plugins?

Some plugins that have already been migrated into the left workflow panel will be found there. Notice that when you invoke these plugins they will launch separately instead of appearing in your Topaz Studio. As we progress in migrating each plugin into the left side workflow panel this step will be go away and become simpler.

Can I use Topaz Studio on a 32bit computer?

Topaz Studio runs on 64bit systems only

Why?

There are a number of reasons for dropping support for a specific configuration or environment. In this case, we have decided that supporting only one architecture will enable us to be more responsive to our customers, improve on the quality and presentation of our technology, and enable more flexibility than our users have seen from us in the past.

Is there a technical reason?

As stated above, the reasons for dropping support can be extensive, but one major limitation that we have decided to stop focusing our attention on is the memory limitation of 32bit systems. Yes, Microsoft is still releasing 32bit versions of their latest OS (Windows 10). However, Apple has not supported 32bit machines for well over 5 years on their latest OS versions.

Topaz Studio is running slowly.

Topaz Labs

What is Topaz Labs?

Topaz Labs is a privately owned company located in Dallas, TX. We use the most advanced developments in imaging technology to create powerful software products for photographers.  The Topaz Team is comprised of veteran software developers, designers, imaging specialists, media specialists, professional photographers, photography connoisseurs and Photoshop experts.

What is the Topaz Labs mission?

We strive to make the finest photo editing experience you can find. We believe the best products are capable to get out of the way, allow a user to focus on their task at hand, and complete their task painlessly. It’s a marriage of technology, usabilty and overall experience that allows it all to work. To achieve that at Topaz Labs, we work continuously to improve every aspect of our business, from our customer service to our website to our products to the technology that power them. We firmly believe that the only way to create great products is to learn and constantly improve upon them, and so we release many updates that enhance the functionality and usability of the software.

What’s your company plan for Topaz Studio and plugins/adjustments?

Topaz Studio is meant to be an easy to use photo editor that produces professional grade results. To achieve this goal we have created a uniquely flexible workflow that allows our users go back and tweak any step of the process without losing any of their work. To take full advantage of this workflow we are incorporating our existing plugins into Topaz Studio. This will add all of the capabilities of our professional tools into one easy to use environment. An amazing benefit of this process is that any changes made to Topaz Studio are immediately reflected in all of the plugins that have been ported over making updates quicker and easier than ever before.
We are working on porting all of our plugins into Topaz Studio (with an update to boot!). This will help simplify your workflow (no more jumping between applications) and makes it easier for us to update them for you! (Remember? Free upgrades for life!) Your plugins will still be available in the Plugins menu in the menu bar at the top of Topaz Studio, but this new update and all future updates will only be available in Topaz Studio.

In addition to porting over all of our existing plugins, we will be adding brand new adjustments that will help simplify existing photo editing processes and add new, interesting, and cutting edge technologies as they emerge.

Topaz Adjustments/Plugins

I updated, why is my “adjustment/plugin” asking for a license key?

You have accessed an older version from the plugin drop down menu. Notice how the “product,” even though has been updated in Topaz Studio, your older version will still appear in the plugin drop down menu. For those of you that prefer the older version can use that version from the plugin drop down menu while they used to the Topaz Studio version.
So in short, if the “product” is asking for a license key then you are accessing the older, outdated version. The latest version will be under the specialty tab.

I bought the Pro Pack a while back, but when I open my Topaz Studio adjustments list, some of the adjustments are showing up black – Why don’t I get these?

When you purchased the Pro Pack, you purchased the adjustments that were available at that time, and lifetime upgrades to those items, as is Topaz policy.

As we add NEW adjustments like the recent “Precision Detail” and “Channel Mixer”, and as a current Pro Pack owner, you have the ability to purchase these new items at a discounted price!

Go to the Go Pro page to purchase.

Log into your Topaz Studio account that you previously used to purchase your pro pack, and add Go Pro to your cart. The cart will automatically recognize the adjustments you previously owned, and figure your discount for your new adjustments!

Once purchased, you will receive free lifetime upgrades to these new adjustments as well.

I’d like the updated plugin but I’m not looking to download Topaz Studio.

All future updates to adjustments/plugins will be accessed in Topaz Studio – to take advantage new updates you will have to download Topaz Studio.

You will still be able to run previous versions of plugins attached to other host editors like Photoshop and Lightroom, but all updates will only be accessible through Topaz Studio.

Understanding this is a change, we are moving all upgraded plugins into Topaz Studio because they run faster and are less demanding on your computer. We highly recommend exploring Topaz Studio and all of the excited unique features it has to offer.

You can download Topaz Studio HERE.

What’s the difference between a Plugin and an Adjustment?

Plugins were our traditional product, our original 17 products from Adjust to Texture Effects, they each functioned as a standalone architecture and each focused on achieving one type of look. However many of them require a host editor to run and you couldn’t run more than one at a time. With a plugin workflow you’d need a host editor like Photoshop, then you would send a layer to one of our plugins, do your work and then render back into Photoshop. The plugins were very powerful but they each took a bit of time to open, and weren’t very flexible to different workflow methods… because once you rendered back into Photoshop you couldn’t go back and make changes. And it took a good deal of time to open and close each plugin if you wanted to use multiples.

Enter Topaz Studio! With Topaz Studio we’ve broken down the different aspects of plugin products into adjustments (which are specific to the Topaz Studio architecture). Each adjustment is even more specialized at creating a very specific effect or look, but infinitely more flexible, they can be tweaked, rearranged, removed, added, blended or masked at any time in your workflow within Topaz Studio, they can also be combined to create an near infinite amount of custom image effects, allowing you to both replicate and extend the workflow provided by our plugins but in a faster, more flexible, and easier to use way.

I just bought my “adjustment/plugin”, my order number is TS-XXXXXXXX, why isn’t it showing up in my account?

We have two different account systems. One for the Topaz Labs plugins and the other for Topaz Studio. All orders start off as TS-XXXXXXX will be in the Topaz Studio account. So any “product in studio” or “adjustments” that you have bought will not live in Topaz Studio account. Any older product that has been updated into Topaz Studio will create an invoice for zero dollars that is basically creating a record of your update/product from the old site to the new.

I show a zero dollar ($0.00) charge, what is going on?

This is simply a record for your update from the old site to the new site. This is why we ask you to validate your plugin when updating your Topaz Studio so we can make sure you receive ownership in Topaz Studio for your previously bought “product.”
